10 Best Free Date Ideas for Married Couples

November 13, 2020 by unraveledmotherhood 4 Comments

Dating your spouse is so important. It encourages alone time, communication, and truly enjoying one another. Sometimes when you have been with someone for a while it is hard to break the cycle of always going to that one restaurant and ordering the same appetizer and main course. Here are 10 free date ideas that can help spice up your married dating life.

1. Have a Game Night In

Having a game night in can be absolutely free. You probably have some board games collecting dust in your hall closet. If you don’t you could try an online game. There are loads of free games online. Borrowing a game from friends is also budget-friendly and can add variety to your game night if you are tired of the games you already have. Plus if your friends want to join you one night, you can make a free double date out of it.

2. Visit an Art Gallery

art gallery date

Art galleries are not only beautiful but usually free. Looking at artwork is not only entertaining but can be really inspiring. To crank it up a notch you could even plan to emulate your favorite art piece together at home. If it comes out beautifully you now have a piece of artwork to commemorate your date.

3. Read a Book Together

read a book for date

Reading is not usually the first thing people think of when having a date. However, if you find the right book reading together can be an exciting way to dive into another world. The old fashioned Netflix and chill if you will, but free. You could go to a park and enjoy the outdoors while one person reads aloud or just snuggle up in bed with a book.

4. Have a Picnic in a Botanical Garden

botanical garden picnic date

Botanical gardens are a wonderful way to get a little exercise walking around and to admire the beauty of nature. If you have a botanical garden nearby check to see if it is free. If the garden allows you to sit and have a picnic, do it. Pack your favorite lunch and plan to relax in the garden for the day.

5. Peruse Your Local Library

local library date

Going to the local library can be loads of fun and you can take books home for free! You can pick out books for your “read a book in the park” date. You could even get some other books just for fun. If your local library has a book store you could check that out too. Maybe you will find some great budget-friendly books. To make it even more interesting check out a different library in your area.

6. Checkout an Antique Store

It is absolutley free to check out a store. A great place to go if you do not want to be tempted to buy a whole bunch of things is an antique store. There are plenty of interesting knick knacks to look at, but there won’t be a whole lot of items they are marketing specifically toward you. For added fun you could even make a scavenger hunt out of it.

7. Go Garage Sale Hopping

garage sale hopping date

Garage sales are always fun to check out. Plan a Saturday to go garage sale hopping. You do not have to buy anything, but it is always fun to see what people are getting rid of. You could make a game out of it and pack your spare change and see who can get the best item for the cheapest by the end of the day.

8. Take a Hike

hiking date

One of the best kinds of dates besides free is one that gets you moving. Hikes can be a great way to get your body moving, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time with your spouse. If you do not have any hikes in your area, you could find a path or a park to walk that you do not normally go to. Walking is a great way to stay active and stimulate conversation and you can go as long or as short as you like.

9. Jump in the Water

water date

Jumping into the water is another active way to spend a date. If you live on an island like me you can just hit the beach. The local pool can also be a great option if you do not have the ocean readily available to you. Swimming is a great way to get a little exercise in and also spend some quality time together. Plus you might be zonked after all that swimming and you can have a cuddle and nap session after.

10. Have a Spa Night

spa night date

This one you can do together or make it a special night for your spouse. Face masks are always fun. Tea or a drink of choice can be sipped. You can turn on youtube and play some spa music. Foot massages are always very enjoyable especially after soaking in warm water. Throw a few essential oils in the mix and you basically have transported to a spa. Setting a night aside to just relax and rest can be such a wonderful way to end a busy workday or week.

Now that you have 10 free date ideas. Go test them out.
